Salinas Grandes through Purmamarca
Full day from Salta to the Salinas Grandes salt flats, climbing the Cuesta de Lipan and passing Purmamarca and the Hill of Seven Colours.
Description
The trip to Salinas Grandes leaves Salta for the province of Jujuy. The first stop is Purmamarca, at the foot of the Hill of Seven Colours, with time to walk around the village and its craft market.
From there the road climbs the Cuesta de Lipan, a mountain pass that reaches 4,170 metres before dropping to the salt flat. Salinas Grandes is a white expanse of salt at more than 3,400 metres, with the geometric pattern the salt workers cut into the crust.
Altitude is felt here. The pace is unhurried and there is time at the salt flat before the return to Salta.
