Description
This version of the Quebrada de Humahuaca adds the climb to the Hornocal viewpoint, the Hill of 14 Colours. The rest of the route is the same: Purmamarca and the Hill of Seven Colours, Maimara, Tilcara and the town of Humahuaca, all part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
From Humahuaca a gravel road climbs to the Hornocal, a ridge of jagged rock whose colours are seen from a viewpoint at around 4,300 metres. The last stretch is done in smaller vehicles and takes up part of the middle of the day, so it is worth carrying something to eat.
This is the most complete outing in the gorge. Given the altitude at the Hornocal, warm clothing and an unhurried pace both help.
