Cafayate through the Quebrada de las Conchas
Full day through the Quebrada de las Conchas to Cafayate, with the Garganta del Diablo, the Amphitheatre and a Torrontes winery.
Description
The trip to Cafayate follows the Quebrada de las Conchas, a red sandstone gorge carved by the river over millions of years. The drive stops at the best known formations, including the Garganta del Diablo and the Amphitheatre, two natural rock amphitheatres.
Cafayate sits at the centre of the Calchaqui Valleys and is one of the country's high-altitude wine regions. The tour visits a winery with a tasting of Torrontes, the white grape the area is known for, and leaves free time in the village.
The return is along the same Route 68, with the light of the afternoon on the rock, which is when the gorge photographs best.
